TALABAN PROJECT
I.OBJECTIVES
1.Familiarize students with various types of community formation.
2. Develop and demonstrate practical skills in obtaining, summarizing, interpreting, evaluating and analyzing both qualitative and quantitative information about a community.
II.SOURCES
1.Date from the local government
2. “ barangay
3. “ local churches/parishes
4. “ academic researches and papers on the community or sector/s
5. “civic or non-governmental organizations/institutions working in the area
6. Information from Customized Surveys and Interviews
7. Straight immersion information from observations, story-sharing, working with and living with people in the community.
III.METHODS
1.Traditional surveys and interviews
2.Participatory Action Research
3. See-Judge-Act Process
IV.CRITERIA
A. Describe and present a historical background of the community based on the following:
1.Name of the community
2.Whether it is a province, subdivision or barangay
3.The approximate distance and direction in relation to Poveda
4.What is bordered by in each direction (name the province, cities, subdivisions, bodies of water as relevant?)
5.Estimated land area of the community
6.What were the major periods of population growth or decline?
7.What major types of industries and other economic activities came and went?
8.What types of major transportation changes, if any, shaped by the community?when?
9.Were there any natural disasters, or major social movements or political struggles that have left a lasting imprint on the community?
Note:This should be demonstrated through a written paragraph plus a map showing the boundaries of the community and bordering localities or bodies of water.
B.Obtain quantitative data about the physical, social , economic, political, and cultural characteristics of the community; organize the data into summary tables; perform basic computations with the data; and prepare a written summary and interpretation of what the data reveal about the community. The types of data to be obtained and analyzed should include the following:
1.Sensing Level: The See-ing Level
What do you see (the place itself or the environment), hear (language/dialect,jargon, intonation), smell, taste, and touch/feel?
Note: It is always good prior to the actual immersion, to be aware of one’s mindsets and perception on the target sector or community.
2.Structural Level/Analytical Level: (for EPC, web-charting and fish bone analyses)
a.Social (common demographics)
-Location: land area
-Number of barangays
-Total population
-Age distribution
-Gender distribution
-Owner and renter-occupied houses/units
b.Economic (distribution of wealth, source of living, purchasing power)
-What are the sources of income/livelihood of the community? Major industries/economic establishments(formal or informal)?
-Labor force: employed and unemployed,
-Occupational distribution, skills
-What is the minimum wage in the area? Range (minimum-maximum income)?
-Budgeting: Income versus Expenses
-Median household income
-Families and individuals below the poverty level
-Health data: nutritional status, eating habits and practices
c.Political (power, level of organization, decision-making)
-Exixting organization (governmental, non-governmental, church-based, ciciv peoples’ organization);How many? What are their programs and services?
-Influence centers/Centers of power (person/s, clan/families, group of people, organizations)
-Who decides? Who follows who?
-Major elected and appointed positions and individuals who occupy them (barangay captain, community leader,etc.), influential personalities
-Laws: existing ordinances, regulations, agreements
d.Cultural (traditions, mores, values, education, religion)
-What are the common religious organizations, sects or denominations?
-School and enrollment summary: How many schools (catholic/non-sectarian;private/public);? Levels of education? Problems in education?

2:14 pm - proud absentee

reasons why i was absent in school today:
1. i went to the plyo gym in the addidas camp just 2 days ago, the workout was challenging and really fun but my thighs really hurt sooo much! well at least the pain is worth it, i mean-it wasn't the nakakasawang threadmill, weights and cosmic cycling i do in fitness first.
2. physical pain made worse yesterday when i walked around greenhills for two hours straight! i had to wait kasi for ate lian. oh,just to let you know, i walk really fast.. yep, it felt like a two-hour workout.
3. i'd rather stay home doing homeworks, studying for session tests and memorizing Dona Victorina monologue than sleeping in class. what's the point if i go to school? i'll just sleep and waste my time there. at least here at home, im productive.
4. okay, I studied for the Chemistry session test but I know i'll just fall asleep in the middle of the test. so i'll just take it on monday when i feel better.
5. it's a friday.. for sure, if i went to school, i'd be going around galle right after and probably be doing something i'm not supposed to do. resist temptation.
6. xavier prom tomorrow night. i can't be sick! i want to go out after prom, sayang naman the night, the prom, the date, the dress and all the glammy things that go with it if i go home early. diba? hehe.
7. i'm really not feeling well.. but fine, i am infected with tamaditis... great, there aint no cure.
*** i want to be a couch potato today, be a homebody! gosh, i can't believe i just said that! i can't even remember the last time i said that!

haven't updated in a long time, tinatamad na ko so ill just follow what sari said, random thoughts na lang daw.. here it goes..
BATANGAS:
1. "i'm okay! i'm rolling on the table and i can chew the sand"-me hahaha!!!
2. marga looked really hot in her white pants and exotic blue top
3. i read maxine's mind when half-german half-pinoy kiddo passed by.. we were playing football and she forgot to pass the football when she saw him.. ehehe
4. "paki check naman ng POOLS niya oh, baka hindi na humihinga"-sari
5. pineda and i super binged on everything on the table-the popcorn,the chips especially the blueberry cheesecake.. we enjoyed it more because we ate it all right in front of anton who was on a serious diet hehehe...
6. matty is our official photographer.. i wont forget to give him a gift when xmas comes
7.on the way home, the guys especially chino and eric knew all the baduy boy band songs and they sang it all! complete with actions and super loud voices.. grabehhh!
8.marga slept traumatized
9. who didn't have a hang-over the morning after? uhmm, si marga lang ata..
10. i forgot to call krissie! felt guilty..
11. none of my family members looked for me ano ba yan..
12. ooohhh, super sarap ng massage.. really worth it!
13. i attempted to get a halter string and henna tan but it didn't work! the hot sun felt nice on the skin though..

8:25 pm - pregnancy worries

No, i'm not pregnant and hell no did i get an abortion! it's just that for the month of january, everyone in my batch will have to be pregnant with 6 pounds of mongo beans for a day! that's a lot of beans, mabigat yun! it's a cl requirement... Marga was one of the first four who were pregnant today. she said it was so damn heavy! my barkada helped her go up and down the stairs, get food, get up and etc... kawawa nga eh... when i first saw her in that mongo bean preggy suit, her face was sooo sad and she kept on whining and saying "i'm not ready for this". she acted as if she really was pregnant! anyway, my classmates and i talked about what days we will be pregnant and it might turn out that the day i will get pregnant is also the day that i will give birth to a baby egg! (gosh, this sounds so weirdly ugh!) hahaha! now this egg is a requirement too! we have to take care of it and treat it as if it was alive. there are soooo many rules and dangers to having the egg but i guess it will be fun. im actually excited! too excited that i started thinking of baby names already! hehehe... i want my baby's name/s to be chocolate brands because... duh! im such a chocolate lover! by naming them chocolates, i'll love them even more! hahaha... anyway,i want to have twin boys but it's hard to find unique names for them... if it's a boy, i like the name milo or snickers... and then if it's a girl, i'll choose between hershey and hugs... there are other nicer unique names but these names have their own stories and backgrounds with me in it... hehehehe... okay, so that wasn't much of a problem... the next thing i have to worry about is... "who's the daddy?" what am i gonna write in my baby's birth certificate?! go ahead and laugh but there really is such a thing, we even have to make a baby book in the end... grrrr basta! i'll get a daddy! someday! hahaha!!!

11:41 pm - batangas beach party!
|
i can't believe it's over... It was just the best trip out of town ever! "sporty" and "bonding" barkada and some ateneo h-boys were there with us... the beach was so beautiful, the water was clear, the sun was shining bright, the sand was clean and it was all perfect! we had our pictorials (we tried to make the place look like it was boracay hahaha), went swimming (showed-off our bikinis ehehe), played frisbee, football, board games... jamming sessions... some people went boating while some (including me!) had a massage... it was 350 bucks but it really worth it, as in! ofcourse the food was great, tita Connie's cooking and tito Raffy's barbequeing were praised much... Sobrang feeling na "seize the day!"...
Seize the day lang? e what happened that night? ahahahahaha!!! full of memories man! every dance, every drink, every smoke, every video, every pic, every wild thing that happened to us- priceless! the details are just... well.. too much... so i better stop now... ahahaha!

Angela, my 10 year old sister is going crazy!!! She's annoying na! Okay, so first she started singing and dancing really wild the song of Sandara... "Am I out? Am I in or out?"... terrible man! And then she stopped and I thought she calmed down already... But nooooo! she starts acting strange again and sings and dances "cat! i'm a kitty cat, i'm a meow meow meow meow meow!" there are three things that made me really sad today:
1. mj said *sean* has a girlfriend already... ay shiyet!
2. my back hurts again! i wont get to sleep well again bad trip
3. i now have to face the hassles (HAZEL acc. to sum1 hahaha!) of having a prepaid phone... daymn!
but there are three things that really made me happy and forget about the bad things:
1. mj and i went on our weekly date, grabe bonding nanaman!
2. it's filipino comedy night tonight! yeay! sorry im just really mababaw.. i laugh at the corniest jokes!
3. i read the lyrics of "why i love you" by b2k.... hmmm... really nice, sweet and all..
plus! many hilarious things happened in school today...

12:50 am - Thank God those weren't the flying kind
|
okay, so just 5 minutes ago, i went upstairs to the kitchen to get water... while going up the stairs, everything seemed fine, i wasn't afraid of the dark (yep, i'm a scaredy cat- you would be too if it's past midnight and you lived in balete drive) and i wasn't paranoid at all... then when i went inside the kitchen, i said "i just hope there are no cockroaches here"... ayyy guess what? seconds after i said that, i turned to my right to see not one, not even two but THREE cockroaches!!! ahhhh!!! grabe KADIRI! no words can describe how ugly and yucky those creatures are! (sorry God)... i couldn't shout for help beacuse if i did, my mom would get out of bed and tell me "what are you doing illegal now? it's late!" yadayadayada... so i just jumped really high as if i was on a trampoline... hey, i didn't know i could do that... i wish i could jump as high again but without having to see cockroaches please!.. Thank God those weren't flying cockroaches! If those things flew in front of me, i would have screamed so loud... and then cry (cry baby pa, anu ba yan hahaha)... I wont care anymore if i wake up my mom and dad (patay na!)or if the guard panics... as long as there are flying cockroaches, there is one frightened crazy me!

i got na my henna! it's kinda smudged though coz i played golf right after i got it... stupid maaan... but as if i a had a choice, my parents were there watching me hit golf balls... grrr... anyway, the tatoo is on my lower back and it says nelly... hehehe... i really like it! i think it's cute with a touch of craziness but then mr. suave said "bakit pangalan mo e kilala ka na ng lahat ng mga friends mo, para kang naka-basketball jersey niyan"... hmph! grabe, mr. suave talga oh! haaaayyy.. but then my coach said "okay yan ah, sexy!"... so now i'm happy again ahahaha!!!
gosh i'm so tired na! i went to greenhills with crissy and sarah... had lunch (lunch lang daw? hahaha) with them at dencios and then we went shopping in greenhills... dami tao! dami jologs... hahaha! ang sama... but true! we bought ourselves clothes for the beach, it was fun but really nakakahilo... and then we went to galle... we went shopping again hahaha... crissy helped me choose a gift for someone and then i got my tatoo... hmmmm... *smile*

wow it's finally january! i've been waiting for january 2005 for a really really really long time already coz first of all, i'm back in manila and second, sari's beach partey! yeay!
i want to get a henna tatoo for the beach so i asked my dad a while ago if i can go to the mall on monday or tuesday to get the tatoo.. he looked at me with his mr. suave face but this time his smile was a little bit different.. HE THINKS I'M CRAZY for wanting to get a henna tatoo.. he thought i wasn't serious about it until i grabbed 50 bucks from his hand and told him.. "pa, donation naman for my henna".. and then he laughed! he just said with his suave voice.. "cge, bahala ka na".. so it was okay na kaso lang dinagdagan niya ng evil laugh in the end.. ayyy!!! HE REALLY THINKS I'M CRAZY!

instead of shopping in atc yesterday, my dad brought us to shang.. MR. SUAVE daddy ko yesterday.. kahit ano, ayos lang! hahaha.. angela and nathan bought toys, debbie bought lacoste shoes, i got a pink glambag (cute!), my mom and i got shirts from guess and ate lian bought nothing at all.. grabe, ngayon lang nangyari yon! my parents were so shocked kasi si ate lian talaga mahilig mag shop.. my dad did'nt want to buy anything.. next time na lang daw para mas madami and mas mahal bilihin niya.. ang yabang talga! hahaha... oh well, mr. suave daw siya eh hehe..
anyway, im in manila right now.. it was such a miracle that my family did'nt go home to tagaytay last night... but the miracle wont last long coz were leaving in about an hour.. yep, were going back to tagaytay.. grrrrrreat... but i guess it's okay.. we don't have maids right now in manila and our house is under renovation so it really would be better for us to stay there..

finally i'll break away from tagaytay! im going to alabang later! my dad said he's gonna treat my whole family to atc later.. shopping daw.. yezzz! pero may limit.. hmmm.. so what?! at least i'll get in touch with civilization in alabang.. para naman hindi puro chinese na lang nakikita ko.. hahahaha.. tagaytay highlands and midlands is full of chinese people.. as in theyre everywhere in this place.. they dominate! i kinda feel out of place when im here coz duh.. im not chinese.. im not against them or anything.. hey! i have chinese friends to prove that.. pero sana pinoys will come to tagaytay.. or maybe even fil-ams... or latinos.. or new zealanders... yum! hahaha

yep.. im going back to tagaytay for the uncountable-nth time! grrrr... no phone, no internet, no friends, nothing! as in far away from civilization.. i'm gonna miss a lot of gimmiks, movies.... especially my friends... ay grabe what am i gonna do there again? oh well, kakausapin ko nanaman yung mga palaka sa garden... at habang nasa balcony, kakantahan ko na lang ang mga bituin.. ang loser ko this christmas grabe... awww... i already miss my friends... i'm gonna miss them more!

steady lang ako this christmas.. grabe, i can't go out- can't do anything pasaway.. house arrest! that's right.. i think those are the two words i'll remember when i think of christmas 2004.. oh well, at least im saving paalams for sari's beach party and proms.. heeheehee... yes! i can't wait!
hmmm.. i really want to go na to the beach.. i actually made a mortal sin by trying on my bikini before christmas gatherings- kainan! shucks.. when i go to the beach on january 8 (halatang excited), i'll see every inch of fat that i gained from noche buenas.. yuck! hahaha.. but there's always a bright side.. being the pasaway that i am.. i'm makapal.. really.. hahaha! for sure i'll get fat after christmas but im still gonna pose FHM style with my fellow pasaway babies when we get to the beach! hahaha.. ay grabe..
what do i remember about the beach party last year? hmmm... oh yeah.. we were still innocent that we did'nt even wanna finish the giant bottles of tequila or touch the kaha of cold beer.. only two or three (from the 19 people who went) brought cigarettes.. nothing illegal.. not even pose FHM style.. grabe we were all so shy last year! but this year's gonna be different and i'm sure! coz the guys have FINALLY unleashed their wild sides and the girls.. well.. we just did'nt know it but we were wild pala all along.. and i'm not saying that because i am.. but the other girls really are! hahaha! so.. 2005 beach party- mostly Povedans and Atenista's - dancin, drinkin, some will go smokin but none will be go drugging.. hahaha! what a term.. can't wait! CAN'T WAIT!!! oh my gosh.. i just remembered.. i haven't made paalam! yikes! "stop dreamin nelly! paalam ka muna!"

wow.. i have a livejournal! hahaha.. wala lang.. it thrills me coz it's new.. i don't even know how to change the colors and the styles but who cares.. first entry muna, learn later hehe.. anyway, i never really had a journal.. all the journals that i once had existed just because it was required.. oh wait, i had one serious journal pala when i was in first year.. but there is no such thing as privacy in my home.. with three snoopy sisters and a careless brother (who i all love but annoy me),the contents of my journal will always excite them and later on become tabloid stories for them.. i dont know how they were able to read it.. i mean, it was inside a bag and the zippers were locked.. oh well. only God knows.. what can i do? nabasa na, buking na.. coz of that, i never wanted to start a journal again.. ano ba yan ang babaw.. sabaw na kasi eh.. hehehe..
